Do you also have wanderlust?
Similar to Kaspar David Friedrich, who at that time wanted to satisfy wanderlust in his homeland,
many people are in a similar situation today.
Let me tell you a secret:
Together with my son, I was allowed to satisfy my wanderlust in a fairytale place.
This time I didn't fly to India, New York or Scotland for this photograph.
Even though I can hardly wait to travel the world again.
For my son and me it goes today the first time together to the Baltic Sea.
Maybe you even know this place?
Let me take you to the " Ghost Forest".
Do not forget to take your childlike curiosity with you, because here we are dealing with a real fairy tale forest.
Some locals say that the forest is located,
"where the wind cuts the grass".
If you look closer you will notice that the sea wind bends the grasses until they look like they are all the same length.
By the way, the enduring oaks, beeches and ash trees are up to 170 years old and stand far apart.
Proud as harlequins in the wind.
No shrub, no flower can withstand the lashing of the salty and humid Baltic air.
Only the ghostly forest with its harlequins.
Perhaps you now suspect where these trees get their shape from?
Do you know, at dusk the fairy-tale and bizarre looking trees create a mystical atmosphere.
I wonder if there are mythical creatures hiding among the branches and twigs at night?
My son and I get closer to the cliff of this 1,300 meter long forest area.
Tripod, lenses and the Phase One medium format digital camera ready.
My intention?
To finally make eternity and transience atmospherically tangible again.
For you.
I approach the cliff.
Slowly I get the feeling that I have stumbled upon a great scenery.
I pull out the camera.
I don't know exactly why, but the longer we linger there,
the more the unique rhythm of this place becomes palpable.
At some point, with the view of the sea and the steadily breaking cliff, the ravages of time become visible to us.
Don't you think that everything has its time?
But the art is
to endure while everything else comes and goes.
The challenges of time that teach us consistency, whether spring, summer, fall or winter.
When you want to grow and meager circumstances challenge you.
Just then to be in harmony with what is, despite all the hurdles.
That's what these enduring trees at the Baltic Sea symbolize for me.
This particular place of longing between Bad Doberan and Warnemünde I have particularly long exposure.
So the flowing Baltic Sea becomes soft and the persistent forest powerful.
I wonder if you noticed how these harlequins in the wind could enrich your life?
A symbol of serene constancy in the storm of the tides.
